As a professional communicator for more than 25 years, Chris Berger has extensive experience leading high-performing and impactful communications teams across multiple industries. He currently serves as the leader of all communications for Advocate Health, the third largest non-profit health system in the United States– created from the combination of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health. Providing care under the names Advocate Health Care in Illinois, Atrium Health in the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin, Advocate Health is a national leader in clinical innovation, health outcomes, consumer experience and value-based care. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health has 68 hospitals and over 1,000 sites of care and serves nearly 6 million patients and is engaged in hundreds of clinical trials and research studies. In addition to sharing medical insights and compelling stories with diverse consumer audiences through media relations, social media and brand and content journalism, Chris’ communications team also connects the hearts and minds of more than 165,000 Advocate Health teammates through strategic, informative internal communications. Under his leadership, his own team consistently leads the Brand, Marketing, Communications and Consumer Experience division of the enterprise in employee engagement results. Chris joined Atrium Health in the beginning of 2017, having previously served in various senior level communications roles for Walmart, in Bentonville, Arkansas, leading large-scale change and programs while communicating to an audience of more than 2 million employees. He also has experience in the government, banking and financial services communication sectors. Chris is a graduate of Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is as passionate about aligning communications with business strategy, values, brand and culture, as he is about his favorite pastime of roasting coffee. With his entrepreneurial spirit, Chris is the founder of Sugar Creek Coffee Roasters, distributing fresh roasted coffee to local individuals and businesses and shipping nationwide, in order to support multiple non-profit organizations. When spare time happens to present itself, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, traveling the world and enjoying the outdoors with a round of disc golf.
