Dr. John Sutherlin is an accomplished academic leader, researcher, and policy expert with more than 25 years of experience across higher education, environmental consulting, and international policy development. He currently serves as the Chief Innovation & Research Officer at the University of Louisiana Monroe, where he oversees institutional research initiatives, fosters cross-sector innovation, and leads technology transfer and external funding strategies. Dr. Sutherlin’s academic career includes professorships at the University of Louisiana Monroe and Tulane University, where he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Public Administration, Environmental Policy, and International Affairs. A prolific scholar, he has authored and co-authored numerous books, peer-reviewed journal articles, government reports, and technical papers, with a particular focus on environmental policy, brownfield redevelopment, and global governance. Beyond academia, Dr. Sutherlin is the founder and senior consultant of The CAID Group, LLC, where he provides environmental policy and sustainability guidance to clients worldwide. He has held leadership roles in several environmental firms in the U.S. and abroad, contributing to innovations in water technologies, solid waste management, and renewable energy. Dr. Sutherlin is a recognized voice in policy and public affairs, with hundreds of media appearances and invited presentations. He is also an active Fulbright Specialist and holds certifications in environmental law, compliance, and cannabis policy. His work is underpinned by a commitment to public service, evidenced by his long-standing roles in advisory boards, editorial review panels, and civic education efforts.
