Yvette Freter, Ph.D.

Yvette Freter was raised and educated in Cape Town, South Africa. She matriculated from Wynberg Girls High School and proceeded to get her teaching qualification from Cape Town Teachers’ Training College. After extensive traveling, she went to Maryville College, Tennessee, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Yvette has received her master’s degree in Cultural Studies in Education and doctorate in Learning Environments and Educational Studies from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has taught graduate Social Foundations of Education courses for over a decade and is a K-12 school teacher with 10 years of public and private school experience. With a research focus on teacher positionality, pedagogy, and social foundations of education in relation to equitable educational outcomes for students, Yvette presents both internationally and nationally and has published her work in a variety of journals and book chapters.
