Dr. Eric Kirkendall, MD, MBI, is a physician scientist and clinical informaticist dedicated to deriving measurable value and impact from health technology—particularly through the responsible application of artificial intelligence and emerging innovations. His work focuses on improving care quality, safety, efficiency, and provider well-being. He has led major initiatives in EHR optimization, clinical decision support, and software development, often using AI techniques such as machine learning and natural language processing to enhance clinical workflows and detect harm. Dr. Kirkendall founded the Decision Support Analytics Workgroup (DSAW) to study how technology can improve clinician decision-making and patient outcomes and currently is a principal investigator and leader within the Pediatric Clinical Decision Support Collaborative.
