When I first attended Wake360 last year, I’ll admit—I wasn’t entirely sure what I was walking into.

The invitation came from a particularly persuasive Student Success Manager who encouraged me to join a weekend filled with dynamic networking opportunities, thought-provoking panel discussions, and meaningful connections with both fellow students and accomplished alumni. I had heard about the event months in advance, but as the date approached, the details had faded from memory, and I found myself scrambling to prepare.

So, if you’re a newcomer like I was—excited but unsure—this is for you.

Here’s a rundown of essential insights and practical tips to help you make the most of your Wake360 weekend.

1. Spread The Word

  • Ask your classmates if anyone will be attending, and encourage them to join if they’re on the fence.
  • Share Wake360-related content via LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to create word-of-mouth awareness and recognition within the academic and professional community.
  • Send personalized emails to mentors, former classmates, or professors encouraging attendance.

2. Start Planning Early

  • Confirm the location and date of the event to secure lodging, flights, and other travel arrangements before prices increase or availability becomes limited.
  • Look up speakers or presenters attending to know who’s coming. Understand their roles and companies so you can ask informed questions.
  • Make sure your LinkedIn account is polished and ready to share with peers, alumni, and prospective employers.

3. Dress to Impress

  • First impressions matter, especially in professional settings.

  • Choose attire that fits the tone—business casual or formal.

  • Pack a stain remover pen or backup clothes—anything can happen on the way to or during the event.

4. Maximize the Opportunity

  • Find out about becoming a student ambassador and create impact by inspiring peers and representing your university with pride.
  • Use Wake360 to connect and network with your peers, alumni, and industry leaders.
  • Engage in the panel discussions, sign up for one-on-one career coaching, and embrace the chance to grow your confidence, leadership skills, and sense of direction as you shape your future.

5. Make Moves & Make It Count

  • Post a reflection or key insight from the event—it shows initiative and helps reinforce your learning. It also keeps you visible to peers and professionals who may have attended.

  • Send a brief, personalized message to the people you met—whether via email or LinkedIn. Mention something specific from your conversation to jog their memory and express interest in staying in touch.

  • Did someone recommend a book, podcast, or company to check out? Follow through. Apply for that internship, research that startup, or join that student org they mentioned. Acting on advice shows initiative and keeps the momentum going.
